THE GRAND BREWERY TOUR

🍻☀️The Vault Bar Tenerife Craft Beer Tasting☀️🍻

Some of you will know we had a little winter sun break in Tenerife.
We wanted to try somewhere a bit different from your regular bars while there and reached out on the Tenerife Facebook groups.

We were really pleased when John and Jadene contacted us and invited us round to their bar in Los Cristianos.
We were also even more pleased when we realised 2 members of The Grand Brewery Tour (Julie and Lee) who we had previously met at our Winter meet at Thornbridge Brewery were also on holiday in the area, so had to invite them along for the evening which they happily agreed too!

John arranged a craft beer tasting for us, which allowed us to try different beers from brewers across the island, combined with a platter of food from their newly anticipated menu.

As we settled in and took in our surroundings, we were made instantly welcome! The bar was busy but with plenty of seating which created a great atmosphere. We soon got chatting and started the beer tasting.

So, first off the beers… We were all offered a decent sample from each bottle/can to ensure we all got to try each one.

A few we tried:
Tacoa – Golden Ale 4.5%
Tacoa and Posma colab – Sour 4.5% – Amy’s favourite
Tacoa – Kalima Hazy IPA 6%
Tacoa – Porter 6%
Canary Ale – Surf Beer Pale Ale 4.5% (Luke’s favourite with the sessionable house Vault IPA)
Confinada Premium – Cerveza Tostada Pale Ale 5%
BENESMEN Nº1 – Berliner Weisse Sour Fruited 5.9%
Jeito Cerveza Artesana – IPA 5.2%
Vagamundo Irish Red – Red Ale 5.4%
Vagamundo American Pale – APA 5.5% (Jon’s favourite)
Vagamundo German Hells – Large 5.5% (Jo’s favourite)
Althaia Mistral – Double IPA 8.7% (Lee’s favourite)
Santa Isabel Big Bertha – Larger 10% (Julies Favourite)

Being a small island, we weren’t expecting so many different varieties, but John did a great selection for us, and we were very pleased to try so many!

He also talked us through each beer, the #breweries and gave us lots of information regarding the struggles some of these craft brewers are experiencing.

The beers were combined with a tasting platter (13 Euros pp) which consisted of burger sliders (chicken and beef) chicken wings, chicken strips, nachos, seasoned fries, corn on the cob, dips etc.

We eat out a lot and can honestly say it was some of the best grub we’ve tried! The beef burgers, chicken strips and season fries were top draw, but it all went down very well alongside the beers!

The whole night was a complete success and flew by. It was great to learn from an experienced bar owner and fellow craft beer enthusiast.

With the island catering for a lot of tourism, you tend to find bars serving similar ‘mainstream’ beers at cheap prices (which is great for most of the holiday, but sometimes you may want something different) these breweries are providing that! With small batch Spanish Lagers, Pale Ales, IPA’s, Sours, Porters, etc.

This however means it can be difficult to get bars to stock and sell them (as people just don’t know they’re available or won’t pay the higher prices compared to a 1 Euro pint etc.)

But for people like us and hopefully you, they provide you with something a little bit different and help support small local breweries and bars that are willing to take a risk on stocking these craft beers…

People like John are starting the revolution across Europe. Craft beer in the UK is exploding, with microbreweries, taprooms and home brewers popping up across the country.

We believe this is because people are bored with the ‘norm’ and want to try new and interesting beers. Why should this change when you’re on holiday?

These bars are out there, it might take 10 minutes of internet research or a Facebook post to discover them at the moment, but it’s worth it!

We understand that although craft beer is getting more and more popular, we are not blind to the struggles some breweries are facing. So we hope we can support business like The Vault, that want to provide that different experience for its customers not only in the UK but further afield too.

So if you’re ever in Tenerife please check them out and if you go anywhere else on holiday, don’t forget to do that little bit of research because you don’t know what gems you might be missing out on!

About the Vault:
Alongside their craft beer fridge, they also have their own IPA and BrewDog IPA on tap, classic #Spanish beers, Sangria, Fizz, Cocktails, Coffee etc (can recommend the strawberry shortcake cocktail!!! and the coffee ) A cracking food menu that pairs perfectly with the drinks they provide Live music! Great bands and artists on every single night, (with the co-owner a member of a band they pride themselves in providing great live music)
El Mirador Local 1, Av. Ámsterdam, 17, 38650 Los Cristianos, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

A little shout-out to:
John and Jadene for putting on a great night for us all, we felt welcomed and really appreciated you taking the time out to chat to us and talk us through all the beers.

Julie and Lee, again thank you for coming and supporting The Grand Brewery Tour, we hope you had a great night, and sorry for our drunkenness on the walk home! 🙈😆

Our heads were a little sore the day after 😵‍💫 but it was certainly worth it!

If you’re a darts fan then you may even bump into World Number 16 Damon ‘The Heat’ Heta.

Cheers all!
