THE GRAND BREWERY TOUR

A weekend with TGBT Friends – Glen Affric Brewery Taproom, The Bow Legged Beagle and a quick tour around Liverpool.

Firstly we want to thank Julie and Lee for there invite and hospitality shown! We first met on our little brewery meetup at Thornbridge Brewery, where we all had a blast! (Thornbridge blog here: https://thegrandbrewerytour.co.uk/thornbridge-winter-meet )  Only to find out where all going to be in the same town in Tenerife at the same time, so of course a meetup at one of Tenerife best bars was organised! (The Vaults Tenerife Blog here: https://thegrandbrewerytour.co.uk/the-vault-bar-tenerife ) A few (a lot) of drinks later we had another great night and The Grand Brewery Tour friends had expanded!

So with an invite from Julie and Lee to come up to Liverpool on the table we couldn’t turn it down. Of course we did all the touristy things first and where impressed by the city its self, as never being to Liverpool, it really did impress.

We of course did The Caven Bar, Mathew Street etc, and even if your not a beetles fan, this is still worth a visit!

We were starting to get pretty thirsty so made our way to 7 Brothers Brewery Tap room, although the brewery isn’t local to Liverpool, we’d heard good things about there beers, so decided to check it out. We were there as it opened, so it was quite at the time, which gave us a chance to talk to the barman who offered us a sample of a couple of their beers. There was some great fruity IPS on offer which we had 2 off and a good sessionalbe lager. They also do a wide range of other drinks, soft drinks, coffees etc, so definitely something for everyone. There is plenty of seating inside and some outside, so if your ever in the area its one we would certainly recommend! The Menu also looked good, but with time escaping us we had to move on.

Next up we meet up with Julie and Lee and headed to one of their local Taprooms, Glen Affric Brewery. Set in a small industrial site, but easily accessible by train from Liverpool (just one stop) this taproom was welcoming from the get-go!

There is seating outside but once the wind got the better of us, and Lee’s pint 😊 we decided to move inside. There is a small selection of brewing equipment in the taproom, which is great to see the workings of the brewery while enjoying your drink. The fermenting tanks, which hide around the corner can also be seen and they are a sight! Some of the tallest we’ve seen in a taproom, impressive!

There is an extensive drinks selection here, they brew a vast range, and we were certainly spoilt for choice! They offer flights, which allowed us to try as many different beers as we could 😊 some of our favourites’ were: Loch & Load // Pilsner, Ocean Avenue // West Coast IPA, Paradise Reef // Pina Colada Pale Ale, I Can’t Believe it’s NOT-ella // Chocolate & Hazelnut Porter, Lake Wanaka // New Zealand Pale Ale, Painting Rainbows // Rhubarb & Raspberry Sour, Bevvie Across The Mersey // Session IPA. But we didn’t have a bad drink between us, they absolutely know what there doing and this even stretches to cocktail and soft drinks, which they also make inhouse. We again sampled a couple and can’t fault them! In fact, we wanted to take a few away with us but totally forgot, so a little online order might be on the cards!

If you’re feeling a little adventurous, we also sampled the Asian Oasis // Pineapple & Chilli IPA, which was nothing like we’ve had before, it certainly left a chilli heat, almost like a strong ginger which developed as you drank it. One for the heat lovers!

A quick shout out to the staff too, we didn’t catch her name, but one of the staff members was happy to talk to us, explain about the brewery, how it came about, its Scottish routes, their brewing process and the new beers on the cards.

Again, this is one you need to head to if you’re in the area, or even make a Liverpool weekend of it. You won’t be disappointed!

As the day was turning into night, we moved on to a great little craft bar, The Bow Legged Beagle in Bromborough. Obviously a popular venue for locals, this little craft bar welcomed us in as well as the regulars.  It was great to see a wide selection of beers on tap from small breweries across the country, a few Belgium offerings which went down well and fully stocked fridges for something a bit different. What’s not to like!

We only touched the surface of what’s to offer in Liverpool and its surrounding areas, but I think we hit upon some good ones! I’m sure well be back to explore more!

With Thanks to Julie and Lee
